Consider Being of Service at the Intergroup Level
We currently need Chairpersons for the By-Laws, Speakers Bureau, and Hospitals & Institutions (H&I) for Southern California Intergroup of Nicotine Anonymous (SCINA). Here are those Service Position Descriptions:
Bylaws
1. Be familiar with SCINA's bylaws and assure that they are adhered to in SCINA activities.
2. Research any needed revisions or additions to the bylaws and make recommendations to the Meeting.
3. Attend SCINA Intergroup Meetings.
Speakers Bureau:
- Gather names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers of people willing to be speakers at meetings in the Intergroup area.
- Serve as liaison between all requests from Nicotine Anonymous meetings for a Nicotine Anonymous speaker with this group of people to set up guest speakers at different meetings.
- Attend SCINA Intergroup Meetings and make any report requested.
Hospitals and Institutions
1. Serve as liaison between all requests for a Nicotine Anonymous panel and the volunteers who will go on the panel.
2. Gather all information regarding street address, location within the facility and time for the panel.
3. Solicit volunteers for the panel from meetings in the area of the facility. It is ideal to get 4 persons, 2 men and 2 women. However it may be a smaller group depending on the circumstances. Be sure each volunteer has the guidelines for sharing as well as the meeting and location information.
4. Meet with the volunteers at a central place at the facility. Be sure to arrange that if anyone is late the rest of the group will go in and start the panel. Being on time with our commitment is important.
5. Attend SCINA Intergroup Meeting and make any report requested.
Register for the World Services Conference
Ah, the opportunity to be part of the 28th annual Nicotine Anonymous World Services Conference April 26-28 in 2013 - is yours. And in beautiful Long Beach, California, at the Golden Sails Hotel Golf and Conference Center.
The correct phone number for reserving rooms at the price of $99 per night (for up to four people) and a complimentary full breakfast buffet, is (800) 762-5333. To get the conference rate, mention the Nicotine Anonymous conference.
Conference registration before 10 April is $35 per Nicotine Anonymous member (no charge for spouses). Click here to pull up the form. Be sure to make checks payable for fees, including special meals, to SCINA. Or you can register online via PayPal.
To be a voting delegate, if your NicA group falls within an InterGroup, you need to be elected as their representative. If your NicA group does not have an InterGroup, the basic rule is that there can be one voting delegate for every three NicA groups in your State or Province.
Voting delegates must register with secretary@nicotine-anonymous.org no later than 26 March 2013. Take note - that is just a month before the conference.
Complimentary air shuttle service is available only from the Long Beach (LGB) airport only. The next message will provide details on the conference workshop topics and the after-conference optional activity. On your own you may enjoy the Queen Mary ship/hotel, Knotts Berry Farm, Disneyland or go to Hollywood to see Universal Studio or Magic Mountain, to name a few.
Also, a new tool or gift for yourself or others is a CD giving the verbal stories of nicotine addicts that is sure to keep your attention focused on remaining nicotine-free. The CD, for only $3.99, was created by the Intergroup in Ohio. The new Newcomers Booklet is also for sale for $4.00. Order either from the online Nicotine Anonymous store, or purchase at the conference.
We are so looking forward to making the 28th annual Nicotine Anonymous conference a wonderful time to meet up with old friends, make new friends, run for office as NAWS has need of qualified and experienced board members - the election of three new ones will take place on Sunday morning - all in the wonderful ambiance of California Breathing.
Your input and volunteer work are what make this organization work. Come to the conference and enjoy. Your time of nicotine abstinence will be strengthened for the rest of your life.
