MINUTES - October 21, 2018

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTERGROUP OF NICOTINE ANONYMOUS (SCINA)

INTRODUCTIONS:  John D. called the meeting to order at 10:09 AM with the Serenity Prayer followed by introductions.

WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED?  Quorum was met with 10 members in attendance.  The following meetings were represented (some members might represent more than one meeting):  Costa Mesa 076, Fullerton 84, Sherman Oaks 185, San Diego 284, Joshua Tree 266, and Long Beach 231.

TRADITIONS: Tradition #10, “Nicotine Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues hence the Nicotine Anonymous name ought never be drawn into public controversy.” was read.

TREASURER REPORT:

Beginning balance $1345.83 plus incoming of $15.00 --Total Incoming $1360.83--Expenses.  Grasshopper-telephone exp. $31.77, Mailbox Express $50.00, Secretary Expense $20.00 and Registrar expense $15.74--Total expense is $117.51 which leaves us with a new beginning balance       of $ 1243.32-----Also included is the former $3000 donation from Steve and that gives us a total of $4243.32.  Also, there is ur $500.20 in our Savings acct.

REGISTRAR REPORT:  No changes were made on the Administration List.  Meeting 286, Friday, 5:30 pm, Palm Desert, was added at the last minute., No Meetings were updated or removed.  All Meetings have USPS contact through their Secretary, their Representative, or email. No H&I Listings were added, updated or removed.  40 envelopes were addressed, and 100 Directories were printed..

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

WORLD SERVICES:  There is a possibility of members watching and participating especially delegates while being at home through a teleconference medium.  There will be a test run next May at the world conference.  Jeff M. and Chad are working on Conference recording and the audio.  November is still Gratitude Month and we are looking for members to do something in Outreach.  There will be an Outreach Workshop on the Nov 3rd.  Contact Jeff M. @ (760) 401-6503.

EVENTS:  The annual Marathon Meetings event will be Saturday, November 17, 2018, in Bellflower, CA.  The Great American Smokeout is November 15, 2018.  For more information about the Marathon Meetings event, or to reserve a meeting time slot, please call Joseph W. at (562) 644-5225.  NAWS Public Outreach Committee has designated November as Gratitude Month.  Flyers for both events have been mailed and emailed to those who signed up for SCINA’s mailing service.

PUBLIC OUTREACH:  People visit our Facebook page one or two times per month.  If anyone is willing to take on, or share this position, please contact John D. at (818) 618-1501.  We need more help with outreach.  George O. was contacted by the Long Beach P.D. about them sending us people who are cited for smoking in the City.  The Police are going to come by at 11:15 am this Tuesday to discuss with George O. what they can do.

BY LAWS:  Nothing important has changed.

SAN DIEGO OUTREACH AD HOC COMMITTEE:  No report.

WORLD CONFERENCE AD HOC COMMITTEE:  The committee meets at 11:30 am on the 3rd Sunday every month immediately following SCINA’s Regular Monthly Meeting.  We need your help in planning the Conference.  Please contact the Chair of the World Conference Ad Hoc Committee, John D., at johndarnell8@gmail.com or by phone at (818) 618-1501.  We will need volunteers.  The Conference will be held May 3-5, 2019.

Director of Web Operations:   Brian K. has been our web czar for several years.  He would like to step down.  We are looking for someone with web experience to take over this role.  It would be nice to move away from PayPal, which charges us a fee each time we transfer money out, and also to modernize our website.  Any experts out there (or at least more computer web savvy than us) willing to be of service?  Please contact George O. OLD BUSINESS:  Gary asked about SCINA 7th Tradition collection from last month and John gave it to him. Gary also asked about the expenses for the picnic.  Bill H. asked about the Joshua Tree Retreat and asking about planning the dates for 2019.  Bill suggested having the Retreat immediately following the Conference so that people from out of town could attend the Retreat as well.

NEW BUSINESS:  John D. and Jeff M. nominated George O. to be Chairperson and George O. accepted. Rick  W. moved to appoint George O as Chair for the remainder of the 2018-2019 term.  Angie B. was nominated and approved to be Treasurer.  Jeff M. suggested and we agreed to plan the Carry The Message month for November (Gratitude Month) in 2019.

BIRTHDAYS:  Joyce D. of San Diego celebrated 21 years in September. Jim G. of San Diego celebrated 12 years, Jim M. of the Joshua Tree has 12 years. Congratulations!

SECRETARY REPORT:  Motion was made and approved for this month’s Minutes.
